Red Rock Scenic Byway is a 15-mile road south of Sedona, about two hours from Phoenix. The route features well-known formations like Bell Rock and Cathedral Rock. It’s easy to combine a drive with time in Sedona for hiking or dining if you want to stretch your legs! If you’re heading there on a weekend or at sunset, though, you can expect to run into heavy traffic!

3. Flagstaff to Sedona via Oak Creek Canyon (Highway 89A)

5. Desert Foothills Scenic Drive (Scottsdale)

The Desert Foothills Scenic Drive runs for six miles along Scottsdale Road, with the Sonoran Desert’s most impressive features on display. It’s a short drive and works well if you want to see local vegetation and get some photos without leaving the metro area!

6. South Mountain Park & Dobbins Lookout

South Mountain Park is one of the largest municipal parks in the United States. You can drive to Dobbins Lookout for panoramic views of Phoenix. The road is paved, about five miles long, and open to vehicles during park hours. It’s free to enter, but it gets busy around sunset!

7. Carefree Highway & Lake Pleasant
